AEROSPACE
Precision-machined componentry for rocket-powered launch vehicles, satellites, and research payloads including equipment used on the International Space Station
Brief: Complex 3D precision-machined components manufactured to a high standard of finesse, supported by compliance validation, from a supplier partner recognised for this capability.
Their process: Multi-axis CNC machining with in-process QC, followed by GD&T compliance validation by CMM and visual inspection under digital microscope/camera. Surface finishing such as anodising or plating, with laser marking for part identification.
Materials used: Aluminium alloys and stainless steels, with specialist materials including Inconel, Monel, 17-4PH, and titanium.
Technology used: 5-axis CNC machining centres, mill/turn lathes with live tooling, EDM wire cutting, CNC coordinate measuring machine (CMM), digital microscope/camera, digital surface roughness tester, ultrasonic cleaning, laser engraving.
Quality mechanisms: ISO 9001, including FAI (First Article Inspection) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
Outcome: Componentry supplied in full, on time, and in specification.
